Ian Meek has had a brain tumour for 15 years and during that time has had three major brain operations.
Unfortunately the neurosurgeons have never been able to completely remove the tumour as this could have caused irreversible brain damage. After his second operation five years ago Ian had a course of radiotherapy, which slowed the growth of the tumour.
In June 2009 Ian underwent his third operation, where it was discovered that the tumour had now changed from benign to malignant. After receiving this news from the Doctor, Ian, being Ian, looked at his mum, Pauline, who was obviously very upset, and started comforting her…..!!!
Pauline feels that, being his mum, she should be able to put things right, but cannot, and feels helpless and inadequate, but Ian pulls his parents, wife and family through, by being strong and getting on with life. At present he is going through a course of chemotherapy, holding down a job, and training for the Three Peak Challenge in June 2010!
We hope that Meeks Three Peaks sponsored 24 hour trek will not only raise many thousands of pounds for Andrea`s Gift, to fund Brain Cancer research in Leeds, but will also raise awareness into this FORGOTTEN CANCER. Presently, less than 1% of funds raised for research into cancer are dedicated to brain cancer, yet almost 5,000 patients are diagnosed with a primary brain tumour every year in the UK.
Your support is appreciated and welcomed by the 70 hardy souls from across the world who are taking part in the event. They will begin on Saturday 19th June 2010 at 1700 hours at the foot of Ben Nevis before heading south to Scafell Pike in the Lake District before the final climb over Snowdon in Wales.
Your support is very much appreciated!
